Chenin Blanc
Chenin Blanc is a highly versatile white grape variety originating in the Loire Valley of France, where it is used to make everything from dry, mineral wines to luscious sweet wines and sparkling wine. It is particularly associated with Vouvray, Savennières and Anjou, and is also a leading variety in South Africa.
Chenin Blanc typically has high acidity, giving its wines freshness and excellent ageing potential. Flavours can range from green apple, pear and citrus in younger, dry examples to quince, honey, tropical fruit and baked apple with greater ripeness and age. Depending on climate and winemaking, it can also show distinctive waxy, mineral or lanolin-like characteristics.
Its combination of acidity, texture and versatility makes Chenin Blanc one of the world's most adaptable white grapes.
