England

England has become one of the world’s most exciting emerging wine regions, with rapid growth in vineyards, investment and international recognition. Its cool maritime climate, long growing season and chalk and limestone soils are particularly well suited to producing fresh, elegant sparkling wines.

Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are the principal varieties, with traditional-method sparkling wine at the heart of the industry. Southern counties including Sussex, Kent and Hampshire are the main centres of production, while still wines - particularly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir - are also gaining prominence.
