Franconia

Franconia, or Franken, is one of Germany’s most distinctive wine regions, centred around the Main River in northern Bavaria. Its continental climate, varied soils and sheltered vineyard sites produce wines with a characteristic combination of freshness, minerality and structure.

The region is particularly renowned for Silvaner, which is widely regarded as its signature grape, alongside Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus and Riesling. Franconia is also famous for its distinctive Bocksbeutel bottle, traditionally associated with the region’s wines. While steeped in tradition, modern producers are increasingly focused on quality, sustainable viticulture and expressing the character of individual vineyard sites, strengthening Franconia’s reputation for distinctive and food-friendly wines.
