Galicia

Galicia, in north-western Spain, is a distinctive wine region shaped by its cool, Atlantic climate, abundant rainfall and diverse landscapes. Its vineyards are often small and fragmented, with granite and mineral-rich soils contributing to wines known for their freshness, vibrancy and strong sense of place.

Albariño is Galicia’s best-known grape, producing aromatic, crisp and mineral-driven white wines, particularly in the Rías Baixas region. Other important varieties include Godello, Treixadura and Mencía, the latter producing increasingly acclaimed red wines. Alongside its strong traditions, Galicia’s producers are embracing modern winemaking, sustainable viticulture and renewed interest in indigenous varieties, strengthening the region’s reputation for distinctive, high-quality wines.
