Rioja

Rioja is Spain’s best-known wine region and one of Europe’s most respected wine-producing areas, celebrated particularly for elegant, age-worthy red wines. Located in northern Spain along the Ebro River, the region benefits from a combination of Atlantic, Mediterranean and continental influences, with diverse soils and elevations contributing to distinctive wine styles.

Tempranillo is Rioja’s signature grape, often blended with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo to create wines ranging from fresh and fruit-driven to complex and mature. Rioja is traditionally associated with oak ageing, and its wines are classified according to ageing and provenance. Alongside its renowned reds, the region produces increasingly acclaimed white and rosé wines. Modern producers are complementing Rioja’s long-established traditions with greater emphasis on vineyard sites, sustainability and contemporary winemaking.
