Sussex

Sussex is at the heart of England’s rapidly developing wine industry and is one of the country’s most important wine-producing areas. Its relatively mild climate, rolling chalk hills and well-drained limestone soils provide favourable conditions for growing the grapes used in high-quality English sparkling wine.

Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are the principal varieties, with traditional-method sparkling wines forming the region’s speciality. Sussex also produces an increasing number of distinctive still wines, particularly from Chardonnay. The region is home to both established estates and innovative independent producers, combining meticulous vineyard management with modern winemaking and a growing emphasis on sustainability. Sussex wines have gained significant international recognition for their freshness, elegance and fine structure.
