Hugel Estate Riesling 2014 Description
This 2014 vintage has achieved remarkable maturity and complexity. The initial bright acidity has softened into a harmonious balance, allowing secondary flavours to emerge with elegance. What once was vibrant green apple and citrus has evolved into deeper stone fruit - ripe peach and apricot - whilst maintaining the wine's signature mineral backbone from Alsace's limestone terroir.
The nose now displays greater depth, with the youthful floral notes of hawthorn blossom developing into more nuanced white flower aromatics. A subtle honey note has emerged, testament to the wine's graceful aging. The palate shows impressive structure; the natural salinity remains crisp and defining, but the wine has gained roundness and texture that speaks to its maturity.
This is a Riesling at its peak - no longer the fresh, zesty expression of youth, but a refined, contemplative wine with layers that unfold slowly. The finish remains impressively long, with lingering citrus and mineral notes that persist elegantly. The touch of residual sweetness, always present, now feels perfectly integrated rather than pronounced, creating a wine of remarkable balance and sophistication.
A stunning example of how fine Alsatian Riesling ages with grace, rewarding patience with complexity and depth.
Goes perfectly with rich, meaty fish dishes
