Coastal Region

South Africa’s Coastal Region is one of the country’s most important wine-producing areas, encompassing many of the Western Cape’s best-known vineyards. Its proximity to the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, Mediterranean climate, varied elevations and diverse soils create favourable conditions for producing wines with freshness, balance and distinctive regional character.

The region includes celebrated areas such as Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek, Constantia, Swartland and Durbanville. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinotage, Shiraz and Chardonnay are among its leading varieties, while traditional-method sparkling wine is also increasingly important. A combination of established winemaking heritage, innovative producers and a strong commitment to sustainability and biodiversity continues to strengthen the Coastal Region’s international reputation.
